When buying a new mattress, it is very important to make sure you follow all the right procedures to ensure you get a long life span on the mattress and you are not wasting your money buying another a few years down the line. One of the many ways to protect your new mattress is by rotating / turning it over.
Each mattress is different, some may only be one sided like our ‘Hotel Platinum’ which can only be rotated and then there are others like ‘The Sanctuary’ which can be flipped over and slept on the other side.
How often should I rotate and flip my mattress?
Sleeping on the mattress for a certain length of time can cause settlement in the mattress (which is normal) but sometimes it can leave indents or sagging. It is recommended to do this every 6 months to keep this from happening. Memory foam mattresses are recommended to do this every 3 months.
How do I rotate my mattress?
One sided mattress you can rotate, you turn the mattress 180 degrees which means where your head was sleeping on is now at the foot and vice versus.
How do I flip over my mattress?
A double sided mattress gives you the option to flip it over to the other side to sleep on. You raise the mattress on its side and flip it over to the other side.
What are the benefits of rotating your mattress?
Longer life span
A mattress is known to last 7-8 years if maintained right. Rotating and turning the mattress can help keep the mattress last longer and offers better support.
Distributes fillings evenly
Rotating or turning the mattress helps even the fillings in your mattress, it means each side has equal wear and the pressure of lying on both sides will even out over the mattress.
Prevents dips and sagging
With a memory foam mattress, they tend to leave body imprints in the mattress this is why rotating/ turning the mattress is ideal. Lying in a bed for any length of time is always going to cause a dip or sagging but if you are regularly rotating it, this will help prevent this from happening.
If you are happy with your new mattress, make sure to follow the advice that comes with it to make sure it lasts longer for you, and also always have a mattress protector on it too, it is little steps that increases the life span on your mattress.
